Abstract
This paper reports on the performance of Cascade, a caching service for distributed CORBA objects. We deploy Cascade in a widely distributed setting comprising of nine hosts at geographically disperse locations over the Internet. The paper presents and analyzes the obtained experimental results, including service response time and network level characteristics such as throughput. In particular, the paper discusses the speedup factor that the application can gain by using Cascade for various consistency policies and workload characteristics.
