Abstract

Dstl is in the process of bringing into service a new generation of Operational Analysis models to improve its ability to examine defence issues. These new models pay much greater attention to Command and Control (C2) issues than previous models. This particular presentation concentrates on one of this new generation of models, the Wargame Infrastructure and Simulation Environment (WISE) that has been designed to address initially Manoeuvre Operations at Formation level. In addition to its C2 functionality, WISE is designed to operate as either a simulation or a wargame, in which the players replace a node in the command chain and act from that perspective. The paper covers the overall approach to the design and implementation of WISE; outlines its key features; and, briefly describes its current status and the plans for its further development.
