Abstract

Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is a prominent switching paradigm for WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical networks. It is known that the JET (Just-Enough-Time) scheme reduces the reservation delay and utilizes network bandwidth efficiently in WDM OBS networks. However, since JET processes the network bandwidth reservation request in FCFS (First Come First Serve) order, it has the potential problem of not considering efficient network resource allocation. Hence we propose a new scheduling algorithm, DJET (Delayed Just-Enough-Time), using an extra offset to improve the performance of the JET scheme. Simulation results show that the DJET scheme can improve network resource utilization by about 40% over the JET scheme without significant delay degradation.
