Abstract

This paper investigates how active networking technology can be applied to enhance Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Mobile IP. By leveraging the intra-network computation, packet redirection, handoff and sending of binding updates is performed by active routers (ARs). Given these enhancements we compared the performance of transmission control protocol (TCP) on mobile IP, optimized mobile IP and our ARs scheme. Our results show that ARs allow TCP to recover faster and achieve better throughput due to low-latency handoff.
