Abstract

This paper is about an author tool that can be used to produce learning objects for WEB-based intelligent tutoring systems. The learning objects are oriented to different competency-based courses that are taught in technical high schools in México under a norm of competency-based education. The norms have a defined structure which is convenient to plan, evaluate and organize the courses. The author tool has three main components: an editor of learning objects for rapid creation of web-classroom applications; a player for displaying learning objects in a convenient interface; and an intelligent tutoring module for adding adaptation features to learning objects. The author tool allows including different evaluations and later storing the learning objects under the SCORM standard. Right now the software has been used to produce basic courses for a high-school technical level and we are working in the implementation of the intelligent tutoring module.
