Link Stability-Aware Ad Hoc Routing Protocol with Multiple Sampling Rates

Abstract

Due to uncertainty of existence of relay nodes (and links), the routing protocol becomes one of the key research issues in ad hoc networks. Most of existing routing protocols search the communication path based on the link stability measured with a single sampling rate. These protocols may mislead to a fragile communication path when the ad hoc network environment becomes dynamic (high node mobility and high noise power). In this paper, we propose the link stability-aware routing protocol with multiple sampling rates for ad hoc networks. The proposed routing protocol takes advantages of both low sampling rates and high sampling rates, which makes it possible to enhance the capability of estimating future behavior of wireless links. It is verified through the simulations that the proposed routing protocol can provide more stable routing path in the dynamic ad hoc network environment.
