Abstract
Challenged by an increasing use of IT, student as well as staff mobility, the introduction of assistive systems, and legal guidelines, todays universities have to rethink about their infrastructural organisation. The rag rug of stand-alone solutions reduces the university’s flexibility and makes cooperations with other institutions difficult. This article examines the evolution of traditional universities to “pervasive universities” on the infrastructural level. It evaluates the service-oriented university as the next infrastructural step to the targeted pervasiveness, and suggests an infrastructure model for educational institutions. We look at the challenges and possibilities of such a model and show its benefit for the university of tomorrow.
