Abstract
This paper performs a comparative analysis of the perceived quality of (unidirectional, non-interactive) VoIP calls under various wireless network conditions (e.g., handover, high traffic demand). It employs the PESQ tool, E-model and auditory tests to evaluate the impact of these network conditions on the perceived quality of VoIP calls. It also reveals the inability of PESQ and E-model to capture the quality of user experience. Furthermore, it shows that the network condition and the evaluation method exhibit statistically significant differences in terms of their reported opinion score values. Finally, the paper highlights the benefits of the packet loss concealment of the AMR 12.2kb/s and the QoS mechanisms under these network conditions.
