Abstract

It is argued here that the network theory can better explain success and give a more concrete view of the internationalization than stage models of internationalization. The resulting business network in a foreign country has more effect than the chosen internationalization mode. Main conclusions are that the actors involved in the everyday actions in a foreign office and their interconnectedness with the rest of the company are important. The participation of a multi-divisional company’s board of directors does not have consistent effect on the success of internationalization.
