Abstract
To meet the demand of shipping derivatives market for shipping talents, shipping derivatives laboratory has been established by Shanghai Maritime University, on the support of shipping enterprises and industry associations. This paper investigates the functions of the aforesaid laboratory for shipping management education and research. The shipping derivatives market, construction content and experimental expounds were introduced briefly. Then the example of hedging by FFA (freight forward agreement) was employed through the analysis of forward contract transactional theory for students to understand the use of shipping derivatives. Shipping derivatives laboratory can integrate the theory and practice of shipping finance perfectly. It’s concluded that the lab could serve teaching and research of shipping finance well.
