Modeling of Water Dynamics on Soil in Water Storage Pit Irrigation

Abstract

In order to improve soil water use efficiency and under water storage pit irrigation condition, the soil water dynamics was evaluated by a two-dimensional model based on the finite volume method. The simulations of soil water content were compared with the water content measurements. The results showed: Good agreement was found between simulated and measured wetting front and water distribution during simulation period. It indicated that the two-dimensional mathematic model for water storage pit irrigation was correct and solving the model with finite volume method was feasible. The mathematical model can be satisfactorily used to describe the soil water properties under water storage pit irrigation.
