Abstract

Aiming at the problem of low efficiency and low photorealistic models in the current navigation simulator, a new interactive system of image-based modeling (IBM) Based on SIFT was studied. The goal of this paper is 3D reconstruction from multiple Images of the scene or the object. To overcome the shortcoming of manual matching in IBM, a new algorithm based on SIFT was provided. To improve the third dimension of 3D reconstruction, a new way of texture image extraction and fusion were adopted. Experimental results show that the image matching algorithm is fit for images even under conditions such as move, rotation, slight scale and affine transformation, and the 3D models generated by this paper are sufficiently accurate and photorealistic to meet the requirements in the virtual reality and visualization applications. Compare with the previous system of image-based modeling, it is simpler, more convenient and easier to create photorealistic models.
