Abstract
In this paper, we investigate how to improve user throughput in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cellular systems. We consider an OFDM system which employs the interleaving techniques within hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocols. To maximize user throughput, we propose an enhanced approach to selecting the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) and interleaving thus this throughput is obtained by considering not only time diversity gain from HARQ operations but also frequency diversity gain from interleaving techniques. Link-level simulation results show that interleaving techniques improve the frame error rate performance of given MCS levels at retransmissions by performing with HARQ operations.
