Abstract

The meteorological data always display hierarchically, and its feature value is shown as planar pattern, which borderline is smooth and continuous. Based on these characteristics, a meteorological application oriented method for vectorization of raster data is brought out in this paper. With this method, the meteorological data storage format is described, a topographic data structure is designed, and traditional border-tracing algorithm is optimized. Meanwhile, the problems generated during the vectorization are solved, which conclude the data hierarchically display, edge smoothing, edge self intersection, closed angle, single point handling. Finally, with the tests in the disaster prevention and mitigation geographic information system, this method has a good practicability at weather forecast, rainfall warning meteorological disaster protection and other aspects of meteorological applications.
