Abstract
This contribution gives an overview of simulation in Europe from a scientific and organizational view. After a short presentation of EUROSIM, the Federation of European Simulation Societies, and of related European simulation activities the development of simulation methodology, simulation software and simulation hardware in Europe are discussed, mainly based on results of comparisons of simulation tools. These comparisons have been initiated by EUROSIM’s journal „EUROSIM Simulation News Europe“. Among general developments and trends (also negative ones) special aspects as object oriented approaches, standards for simulation tools and the question of a „common denominator“ for simulation languages, and parallel simulation are sketched briefly.
