Zusammenfassung
Der Anfang das Jahres an der Universität Ulm neu eingerichtete Sonderforschungsbereich 527 befaßt sich mit dem Thema Integration symbolischer und subsymbolischer Informationsverabeitung in adaptiven sensomotorischen Systemen. Die beteiligten Institutionen und Institute sind die Universität Ulm mit den Abteilungen Neuroinformatik (Prof. Dr. G. Palm, Prof. Dr. H. Neumann, Dr. G. Kraetzschmar, Dr. A. Strey), Numerik (Prof. Dr. R. Seydel), Künstliche Intelligenz (Prof. Dr. F. von Henke), Meß-, Regel- und Mikrotechnik (Prof. Dr. E. Hofer, Dr. B. Tibken), Vergleichende Neurobiologie (Prof. Dr. G. Ehret) und der Sektion Neurophysiologie (Prof. Dr. W. Becker), das Forschungsinstitut für anwendungsorientierte Wissensverarbeitung (FAW) an der Universität (Prof. Dr. Dr. F.J. Radermacher, Dr. T. Kaempke) und das Daimler-Benz-Forschungszentrum in Ulm (Dr. P. Regel, H. Mangold). Die zentrale Problemstellung des SFB besteht in der Erforschung und Organisation nützlicher Interaktionen zwischen Methoden der symbolischen und subsymbolischen Informationsverarbeitung (insbesondere zwischen künstlichen neuronalen Netzen und wissensbasierten Systemen) auf einem autonomen Fahrzeug. Auf diese Weise soll ein konkretes sensomotorisches System geschaffen werden (der SFB-Demonstrator), welches in den ersten 3–5 Jahren u.a. folgende Leistungen erbringen soll: schnell auf unerwartete Veränderungen der Umgebung reagieren (anfangs ist hierbei an eine Büroumgebung gedacht); Aktionen über Längere Zeit planen (strategische Pläne), zum Beispiel zum Suchen und Einsammeln mehrerer über verschiedene Räume verteilter Objekte; aus der Erfahrung in dieser Umwelt lernen und sich an langfristige Umweltveränderungen anpassen. Die Hauptprobleme, die dabei angegangen werden sollen, sind die folgenden:

das Architekturproblem für Systeme, die auf der Interaktion mehrerer Ebenen jeweils adaptiver Informationsverarbeitung basieren.

Der spezielle Aspekt der neuro-symbolischen Integration.

Adaptivität und neuronales Lernen in komplexen hiererchischen Systemen.

4)
Nutzung neurobiologischer Modellbildung in künstlichen sensomotorischen Systemen.

Sensorfusion auf autonomen Fahrzeugen.

6)
Die Interaktion von strategischer Planung mit Steuerung und Regelung.

7)
Die Wechselwirkung eines autonomen Fahrzeugs mit einem menschlichen Partner durch Sprache, Gestik und Sehen.
