Abstract

A simple model of a Geographically Distributed Computer System is developed, which takes into account both the computer hardware and the communication line costs, in order to investigate underwhat conditions a distributed system is less expensive than a centralized one.

Some quantitative relations show the weight of the parameters affecting the total system cost.
