Dynamic Consistency Constraints in the Conceptual Schema and their Connections with the External Schema

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Informatik-Fachberichte ((INFORMATIK,volume 33))

Abstract

To include consistency constraints in a data base system we need special tools, languages to describe them and software to enforce them. In this paper a language concept (which extends the classical relational model) is presented for the logical design of a data base on the conceptual and the external schema level. The application of this concept has shown, that the use of its extensive consistency constraints can even improve the performance of a data base. However, in every case it improves the maintainability.
