Abstract

The Research Queueing Package (RESQ) is a system for constructing and solving extended queueing network models. The extensions to classical queueing network models which are available in RESQ enable the modeler to represent many complexities which are found in computer systems, communication networks, distributed systems, office systems and manufacturing lines.

The graphical facilities for constructing RESQ models will be described. The model builder selects RESQ symbols which represent the system and specifies how they are interconnected. The program automatically produces a file containing RESQ modeling language statements which can be used with RESQ commands. It is also possible to draw a diagram of a model which has been constructed directly from RESQ modeling language statements. Once the model is solved, perhaps several times with different parameter values, the results can be displayed in graphical form.
