Summary

The effective use of simulation as a methodology for problem solving can be ameliorated by the introduction of simulation based inquiry systems. These systems comprise a language system, a knowledge system and a problem processing system.

A family of simulation based inquiry systems can be implemented in the programming language Simula. We identify the instruments of a conceptualizer, a modellor, an experimenter and an evaluator. Various entity-categories present the building blocks for simulation methodology in specific appication area’s.
