Summary
This paper discusses the influence of linear and nonlinear equations of motion on the results of a time simulation for a simple model of a vehicle rear axle using general purpose multibody programs. Applying this test example with bearings and linear suspension force laws, the programs ADAMS, MEDYNA, MESA VERDE, MULTIBODY and NEWEUL are tested. It can be shown, that the nonlinear behaviour of the rear axle can be described using only nonlinear representation of the spring-damper-kinematics. In this case the intgration needs only half of the time required for a completely nonlinear simulation.
