Zusammenfassung
Das Advanced Language Project an der New York University (1981–1984) ist das vorläufig letzte in einer Kette von Experimenten zur empirischen Evaluierung der Machbarkeit und Nützlichkeit natürlichsprachlicher Datenbankschnittstellen. Die quantitative Analyse der Beobachtungsdaten hatte zu eher entmutigenden Ergebnissen geführt, die z.T. mit den Resultaten der vorherigen Studie im Widerspruch zu stehen schienen. Diese Arbeit stellt den quantitativen Auswertungen einige neue qualitativ-interpretative Untersuchungen der Protokolle gegenüber, um die scheinbar vorgefundenen Widersprüche aufzulösen. Gleichzeitig ergeben sich einige generell gültige Aussagen über den notwendigen Aufbau natürlichsprachlicher Frage-Antwort-Systeme, seien sie wissensbasiert oder subsetorientiert.
