Abstract
Different application areas with various characteristics and requirements are facing a wide offering of LAN concepts. Being encouraged by standardization bootes like IEEE or ECMA this development surely will notchange in the future. The performance evaluation of adequate network concepts decisively depends on these attributes which can be specified by the workload of the application area. This paper describes the analysis of a technical-scientific program development environment as one of these user scenarios by the development of appropriate models to describe the user behaviour. The model parameters are quantified by load measurements and result in the dedicated workload of this specific environment. Furthermore, we discuss purpose and problems of load measurements at an university computer center and analyse the results.
