Zusammenfassung
Bei der Entwicklung zukünftiger Umweltinformationssysteme müssen die besonderen Eigenschaften der zu speichernden Daten und die Art der zu beantwortenden Anfragen berücksichtigt werden. Die zu speichernden Daten sind häufig unsicher oder unvollständig und von heterogenen Strukturen und Darstellungsformen (Texte, Fakten, Abbildungen). Die interaktiven Anfragemöglichkeiten an Umweltinformationssysteme erfordern die Beantwortung vager Anfragen und die Möglichkeit zur Formulierung von Anfragen unabhängig von der Struktur und der Darstellungsform des gespeicherten Wissens. Zur Behandlung vager Anfragen und unsicherer Daten können Ansätze aus dem Information Retrieval angewendet werden. Die Behandlung heterogener Datenstrukturen wird durch das Konzept der objektorientierten Datenbanken ermöglicht. Bei der Entwicklung multimedialer Informationssysteme ist das Problem der Integration der verschiedenen Darstellungsformen bislang unzureichend gelöst. Zukünftige interaktive Informationssysteme erfordern gegenüber derzeit existierenden Datenbanksystemen eine wesentlich erweiterte Anfragefunktionalität wie z.B. Ranking, Browsing, Zooming, Relevance Feedback und aktives Systemverhalten. Abschließend wird auf die Notwendigkeit der empirischen Fundierung bei der Entwicklung von Informationssystemen für komplexe Anwendungsgebiete hingewiesen.
