Zusammenfassung
Grafische Benutzungsschnittstellen haben in letzter Zeit immer mehr an Bedeutung für die Mensch-Rechner Interaktion gewonnen. Waren es zuerst Anwendungen, die eher einen technisch unerfahrenen Anwenderkreis bedienten (Textverarbeitung, Dokumentenverwaltung), so hat sich das jetzt auch immer mehr auf komplexe, stärker technisch orientierte Anwendungen ausgedehnt (Netzwerkanwendungen, Konfigurationen usw.). Der primäre Vorteil grafischer Benutzungsschnittstellen liegt in der Strukturierung komplexer Information. Visuelle, bildliche Information kann vom Menschen eher parallel verarbeitet werden (ROHR 1988, 1990a). Sie hilft überall dort, wo entweder strukturelle Zusammenhänge analysiert werden müssen (GERSTENDÖRFER & ROHR 1987) oder ganz allgemein ein Überblick über eine große Menge von Informationen gehalten werden muß.
