Zusammenfassung

Das Interesse an „formalen“ Anweisungen für den praktisch handelnden Arzt läßt sich bis in das Altertum zurückverfolgen. So wurden, wie in Buchanan und Shortliffe (1984, S. 12f) berichtet, Tafeln aus Neubabylonischer Zeit (etwa 650 v.Chr.) gefunden, die mit konkreten Handlungsanweisungen für das alltägliche Leben versehen waren. Darunter fanden sich auch Anweisungen zur medizinischen Untersuchung und zur Diagnose und Prognose von Krankheiten. Die folgenden Beispiele sind aus Wilson (1956) und Wilson (1962) zitiert: „When you are about to examine a sick man …“

  • If, after a day’s illness, he begins to suffer from headache, …“

  • If a mother conceives again, her scalp and forehead becoming yellowish in colour, …“

  • If … head …, he will die suddenly.“
