Die grundlegende Struktur von verteilten Anwendungen besteht aus einer Menge von kooperierenden Anwendungskomponenten, die auf unterschiedlichen Rechnerknoten angesiedelt sein können. Verteilte Anwendungen sind i.a. komplexe und langlebige Programmsysteme, die während ihrer Lebensdauer operationalen und evolutionären Änderungen unterliegen.
