Abstract
In our recently installed gyneco-oncologic outpatient clinic an EDP-documentation system has been established to facilitate data management. Instead of a PC-system a mainframe (IBM 3090) based solution has been chosen for the following reasons: (1) almost unlimited capacity of mass storage, (2) efficient data protection, (3) centralized backup facitlities, (4) on-line access to data in other departments connected to this system, (5) data processing using implemented statistical software. The basical WAMIS (Vienna General Medical Information System) software is in use in our department since 1975, thus allowing a heuristic approach developing the new database. Components and development of the system are presented in this paper.
