Abstract

A microprocessor controlled system, aimed at the training of cardiologists in the interpretation of phono and electrocardiogram signals, was developed and implemented. The system has two independent modules: the data acquisition module and the generation module. The data acquisition module allows the creation of digital files of ECG and standard cardiac sounds which are processed by a microcomputer and stored in an EPROM. By using these data files, the microprocessor generation module generates the standard signals allowing the user to choose the kind and shape of signal to be generated. These signals can then be visualized in a monitor or plotter and an audio output. The system allows the user to simulate typical heart disease signals at different frequencies and to change the standard signals by software.
