Viewpoints and Visualisation

Enterprise Architecture at Work

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the use of views of enterprise architectures, both to create and manipulate architectural models and to give others insight into the architectures being described. We describe the use of viewpoints in communication, and the distinction between an architecture model, a view of that model, and its visualisation and manipulation. We give guidelines for the selection and use of viewpoints, and we outline a number of viewpoints on the ArchiMate language that can be used by architects involved in the creation or change of enterprise architecture models.
