Abstract

On September 29, 1998, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a new patent under the title “Method and apparatus for efficient design automation and optimization, and structure produced thereby”. The inventors are Hojjat Adeli and H.S. Park. In this Plenary Lecture we present this patent and its application to design automation and optimization of large one-of-a-kind engineering systems. We also show the successful application of this model to another nonlinear optimization problem, construction scheduling and cost optimization.
