Abstract

In this paper, we present the result of the alignment between the strategic and tactical objectives for information technology at a public university, the University of the Balearic Islands, through the approval of IT project portfolio for next year. The main contribution of this case study is to demonstrate that the three IT governance mechanisms: alignment, communication and structures, when used properly, are irreplaceable means to produce the value that the board expects from IT. Our IT governance model uses these three mechanisms, and one of the mechanisms for alignment is shown.
