Abstract

We have been building a live mobile learning system that provides real-time distance learning for students using tablets. An instructor gives a lecture in front of a tablet by bringing up slides and making annotations on them. Students watch the instructor as well as the slides with annotation being made by him, on their tablets. They can also ask him questions by typing texts in the text chat. Typing texts, however, turned out to be not efficient user interaction method in terms of convenience and speed. Therefore, we enhanced the user interaction by allowing students to talk to the chat which, in turn, handles speech-to-text processing and send the text to the server.
