Abstract

This paper aims at developing a microstrip patch antenna with hexagonal fractal pattern for a ground-based surveillance radar. The antenna performs in the X-band in between 8 and 9.5 GHz, applicable for short-range search. The ground plane has been varied in the design to observe its effect in the gain and VSRW parameters of the antenna. The final antenna design works at 9.2 GHz (X-band range) with a return loss of −28.63 dB after various stages of slotting in the ground plane depicting the effect of modification of ground plane parameters in the design.
