Abstract

This paper proposes a secure color-code key exchange protocol for secure mobile chat applications (MC APPs). This proposed protocol in this paper is a novel approach which the exchanged color-code coding session keys are selected from the assigned color-code sets, which each color-code key is determined by according to a random number and generated by using simple exclusive-or operations for each session. Furthermore, some distinct color codes are chosen randomly and represented as passwords for the distinct session, which are exchanged via a Mobile Chat Server (MCS). In addition, the exchanged color-code session key is used for the encryption and decryption algorithm which could provide an easy approach to protect the communicated messages between the two clients’ MC APP for each session. Finally, it could be applied efficiently to be a novel secure key exchange mechanism on a MC APP.

This version is extended from the original paper titled as ‘A Secure Color-Code Key Exchange Protocol’ presented in the MobiSec2016 workshop, Taichung, Taiwan, July 13–16, 2016.
