Abstract

Traffic speed enforcement cameras are used to reduce speeding, which is a major element in increasing the frequency and severity from traffic accidents in urban areas. Existing researches have focused on the analysis on the efficacy of traffic enforcement cameras such as comparison of the number of traffic accidents and the change in the speed before and after the installation of the cameras in highway areas. This study conducts temporal and spatial analysis of traffic accidents in the sites where speed enforcement cameras are installed for urban area. The findings show that enforcement cameras differently affect the traffic accidents according to the roadway environment. The results of this analysis can be applied to draw up preliminary policy guidelines on the installation of the automated speed enforcement camera.
