Abstract
Nigerian university scientists are working under very difficult conditions created by a number of constraints of which lack of equipment and lack of information are the most crucial. These constraints have generated a number of adaptations that are both innovative and opportunistic. Strategies for dealing with these constraints are described. Attention is also given to the social milieu of the scientists and the issue of reward for scientific contribution.
