Criteria for performance profiles of departments and universities

Abstract

In this paper a proposal is presented on how to meet the increasing demands of the public in Germany for qualified and comparable information about the performance of German universities. Instead of a one-dimensional quantifying ranking-system, a report-system for departments and the university as a whole is presented which contains a list of qualifying statements and comments which are necessary in order to render the quantitative data and ratios comprehensible.
