Reasoning about concurrent actions in multi-agent systems

Abstract

Concurrence is an important research area in collaborative problem solving. This paper offers a formal definition for cooperative sequences in multi-agent systems, discusses the different categories of concurrent actions, and proposes some rules for situation revision and an algorithm used to generate resulting situations. An example is also given to show how to solve concurrent problems occurring in multi-agent systems.

FAN Xiaocong was born in 1972. He received the M.S. degree in computer software engineering in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Nanjing University in 1999. His main research areas include software agent, multi-agent systems, software engineering.

XU Dianxiang was born in 1967. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Nanjing University in 1995. He is an Associated Professor at Nanjing University. His main research areas include logic programming, software agent, knowledge engineering.

HOU Jianmin was born in 1967. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Nanjing University in 1999. His main research areas include model checking, real-time system verification.

ZHENG Guoliang was born in 1937, Professor. He received the B.S. degree in mathematics from Nanjing University in 1961. His main research areas include software engineering and knowledge engineering.
