Abstract
The mechanism of compensation of the incident field discontinuity due to the presence of a wedge is examined in detail whenever the source is located on a face of the wedge or in the prolongation of a face. One is interested then in the compensation of discontinuity of a simply diffracted field due to the presence of a second wedge when the edge of this one is located in the transition zone from the first. In this case, it is still possible to apply theTud in a conventional manner like showed it JB. Andersen by modifying in the expression of the coefficient of diffraction the distance parameter related to the second edge or as we show it in an original way by modifying the distance parameter related to the first edge. It is emphasized that the mechanism of compensation of the simply diffracted field discontinuity is far less simple in the two joined wedges case as in the two separated wedges one. Numerical applications carried out in the case of a polygonal cylinder with trapezoidal cross section are given in order to illustrate the theoretical demonstrations.
