Abstract
This paper discusses services and functionality to be offered by public communication service providers in order to keep their customers. A brief description of the situation to be observed today is followed by a discussion of application layer issues to be addressed, including some lessons learned on e-mail usage from large user organizations. Subsequently, problems to be solved by the underlying transport system are discussed.
