Abstract
Microelectronics has penetrated all areas of public life. This penetration has resulted in an increased exposure of man and machines to electromagnetic fields that are produced by other electronic equipment and which are summarized under the term electrosmog. On the other hands the progress in microelectronics has also born supercomputers with throughput in the range of several GFLOPS and Megabytes of main memory. They are the hardware basis for finite difference time domain an other space grid solvers for Maxwell's equations. Government regulations concerning electromagnetic compatibility and the public's increased awareness of electrosmog have emerged a new interest in the computation of electromagnetic fields and their impact on human life.
