Zusammenfassung

Nach einer vielfältig technologisch beeinflußten stürmischen Entwicklung machte das allgemeine Bild von der Mikroprogrammierung und deren Einbettung in komplexe Gesamtsysteme mehrere Wandlungen durch. Inzwischen ist eine gewisse Ernüchterung eingetreten, welche die Mikroprogrammierung schlicht als ein Hilfsmittel beim Entwurf von Interpretierern für die untersten Ebenen innerhalb einer Hierarchie von Sprachen erscheinen läßt. Ein Verdienst der Mikroprogrammierung und der vielen Forschungs- und Entwicklungs-Aktivitäten auf diesem Gebiet besteht darin, daß die traditionelle Demarkationslinie zwischen Hardware und Software in Bewegung geraten ist, und darüber hinaus mehr und mehr zur "offenen Grenze" wird.
