Abstract

Normalization theory for relational databases is based on the construct of functional dependency. In this paper, we extend the formalism of functional dependency for temporal databases that include object-identity. The proposed extensions are used to compare object-oriented modeling and Extended Entity-Relationship modeling in structural and temporal terms.
