Abstract

Rapidly increasing performance requirements of large applications have led to the development of closely coupled systems. These systems are characterized by large numbers of processing elements interconnected by some scalable high performance network. While these architectures provide the processing power required, additional operating system support is necessary to make porting of applications feasible.
