Abstract

In a number of applications, such as commercial television or military communication, it is necessary to construct mechanisms preventing a tranmitted message from being intercepted. This article presents a novel method for the scrambling of wide sense stationary sources. The method is based on the controlled introduction of a periodic clock change, i.e. a periodic compression/expansion of the signal timebase. We derive the conditions under which perfect reconstruction may be achieved and present an example highlighting the schemes most important properties.
