Abstract

This paper describes a toolbox for manipulating huge databases that are created in many scientific domains. The Whole Information System Expert (W.I.S.E.) was originally developed to fulfill the need for this type of toolbox in Space Science. Its effectiveness is shown using an example from the Remote Sensing field. We discuss the methods of converting image data into a useable form for presentation to Artificial Neural Networks and weigh up the pros and cons of each technique.
