Abstract

Can network Management benefit from the use of Distributed Transaction Processing in terms of fault tolerance, application development efficiency, data and resources integrity/consistency. If so, what is the foreseen impact on performances? Experiments and results, both in technology developments and in trials within the ACTS Domain 5 projects lead to significant results which are discussed in this paper.

The work presented in this paper has been partially funded by the European Union in the context of the ACTS) projects (ACTranS, PERFORM, ReTINA. The authors are particularly gratefull to Spyros Batistatos (INTRACOM), Martin Van der Werff (KPN), Ramzi Karoui, and Malik Saheb (INRIA) for their review and fruitfull comments
