Abstract

In this paper, a methodology for evaluating performances of telecommunication networks based on optical fiber systems and DCS nodes is presented. Availability and lost traffic are chosen as performance measures. The methodology includes two aspects: the probabilistic calculation is done by partial enumeration and the rerouting calculation (restoration from failures) is accomplished by a heuristic method based on K-shortest paths. This rerouting is made very rapidly thanks to a sophisticated data structure. Consequently, the availability of networks up to 26 nodes can be evaluated accurately.
