Zusammenfassung

Die Geo- und Umweltwissenschaften arbeiten heute in großem Maße und entlang des gesamten Forschungsprozesses digital: Von der Beobachtung, Erfassung und kontinuierlichen Messung der Umweltphänomene mit unterschiedlicher Sensorik über die Analyse dieser Beobachtungsdaten und Erstellung von Modellen und Simulationen zum Verständnis oder der Vorhersage von Umweltprozessen, der Synthese von Daten verschiedener Quellen zur Beschreibung und Bewertung von Umweltveränderungen bis hin zur Publikation der Ergebnisse als wissenschaftliche Beiträge, Empfehlungen oder interaktive Visualisierungen. Allerdings gibt es viele Brüche in den Arbeitsprozessen und vielfache Hemmnisse für ein kollaboratives, auch interdisziplinäres wissenschaftliches Arbeiten im Sinne von e-science. Hier skizziert der Beitrag aktuelle Entwicklungsstände, derzeitige Forschungsansätze und verbleibende Herausforderungen für Informatik und Geoinformatik.
